Frequently Asked Questions

Where is it being built?

Brimbank Tech School will be consrtucted on the Victoria University Sunshine Campus on Ballarat Road.

What is being built?

Brimbank Tech School is a STEM hub for local secondary school students, where they'll utilise leading technology to develop their skills responding to emerging challenges in local industries, including health, transport and logistics, building and construction.

Tech Schools provide hands-on and immersive STEM learning experiences to secondary school students, sparking their aspirations to pursue future pathways and careers in STEM. Students don’t change schools – they remain at their enrolled ‘home’ school but attend the Tech School for single or multi-day programs, linked to the curriculum at their home school.

Students within the Brimbank area are transported to and from their existing secondary schools to the Brimbank Tech School to experience new and emerging technologies. Students will gain real-world skills in STEM education to build their interest in new technologies, furthering their education and career options beyond secondary school.

When will construction works commence and conclude?

The approved design has been released to tender. We expect to appoint a builder and commence construction in July 2025. The works are expected to take 12 months, with the Tech School set to be completed in Term 3 2026.

Will the build require disruptions to traffic or road closures?

Importantly, no road closures are expected as part of the works.

We know traffic disruptions can be frustrating, and we’re working to keep them to a minimum. Most construction activity will be contained within the site, including contractor parking and delivery areas.

That said, you can expect some heavy vehicle movement during key phases.

To help manage this, the contractor will develop a traffic management plan that aims to route construction vehicles via Ballarat Road, reducing impact on Phoenix Street residents. This timeline will be communicated to you in the coming months.

Will the build impact my property?

We understand that nearby residents may be worried about noise, dust, vibration, and other disruptions during construction. While some impact is possible, steps are being taken to keep this to a minimum.

The contractor is required to follow strict environmental guidelines and will put a plan in place to manage things like noise, air quality, and runoff. Work will be scheduled during daytime hours, and residents will be notified ahead of any particularly disruptive activities.

Importantly, the building design avoids deep piling, which helps reduce vibration. For those closest to the site, property condition surveys will be offered before construction begins.

Once a builder is appointed, a 24-hour contact line will also be available in case of urgent concerns. We’re committed to keeping the community informed and protected throughout the process.
